Media projects Kentucky WBB to finish 7th in SEC this season
Coming off the program’s first SEC Championship win in 40 years, Kentucky women’s basketball is entering a bit of a rebuilding era as Kyra Elzy prepares for year three as head coach.
Ahead of Tuesday’s SEC Media Day, the Southeastern Conference released the preseason media poll and awards projections for the 2022-23 women’s college basketball season. The Wildcats are projected to finish seventh in the conference this season, rounding out the top half of the league. Kentucky is welcoming 10 new faces this season, including six rookies and four transfers.
UK did not have any players make the First- or Second All-SEC Preseason Teams.
During the 2021-22 campaign, Kentucky finished the regular season with a 19-12 record that included an 8-8 mark in the SEC, good enough for a seventh-place finish. The ‘Cats would close the season on a 10-game winning streak, headlined by four straight victories in the SEC Tournament and a victory in the title game over South Carolina, which would go on to win the NCAA Tournament.
Coach Elzy, along with sophomore G Jada Walker and 5th-year senior G Blair Green, will take the Media Day stage on Tuesday afternoon in Birmingham, AL to preview the upcoming season. KSR will have boots on the ground to provide you with coverage.
