There are many traditions that go along with Christmas in the Bramblet household that I look forward to every year. Whether it is watching A Christmas Story so many times that our dad refuses to ever watch it again (Yipee, a Zeppelin), the new annual viewing of "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" or Leftover Jamboree, there is a lot to get excited about. However, the one tradition that is most appreciated by the family is the annual watching of the Christmas episode of Late Night with David Letterman. I figured as my Christmas present to the loyal Funkhouser readers, I would share with you this wonderful holiday tradition.
There are three major points to each yearly Christmas episode. First, 15 years ago after Vinnie Testaverde couldn't hit a meatball off the top of a Christmas tree with a football, Jay Thomas walked out from backstage and knocked it down on the first try. He has come back every year to repeat the performance, with Letterman knocking it down occasionally. Secondly, Thomas precedes his football throwing by telling what Letterman considers to be "the single best talk show story he's heard in his life", as Thomas recounts the time he gave "The Lone Ranger" Clayton Moore a ride back to the Red Carpet Inn after getting "herbed up" at a radio remote. In all honesty, it may actually be the greatest story ever told. Check it out below with a bonus montage of Thomas and all of his meatball throws up to that point.

Lastly, but certainly not least, Darlene Love has been coming on the show for the last 20 years to sing "Christmas Baby (Please Come Home)".
