Mike Edwards agrees to deal with Kansas City Chiefs
A former Super Bowl champion is joining the reigning Super Bowl champions. Mike Edwards, who played his first four seasons in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has agreed to a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The deal is worth $3 million, with a chance to get to $5 million with incentives, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting.
Edwards is coming off his best season with the Buccaneers, racking up 82 tackles (52 solo), three pass break-ups, two interceptions and a sack. He’s recorded 184 total tackles, 21 pass deflections, seven interceptions and two sacks in 58 career games played.

Prior to his time in Tampa, Edwards played at Kentucky from 2014-18, never missing a game in that span with 51 total outings and 44 consecutive starts. In that time, the 5-foot-10 safety totaled 318 career tackles, making him just the 19th player in school history with 300 or more tackles. He ranks second in UK history in tackles among defensive backs, trailing only Darryl Bishop (348 from 1971-73).
Following his standout senior campaign, Edwards was selected by the Buccaneers in the third round with the 99th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Now, the former Wildcat is taking his talents to Kansas City.
