Mingione tells Finebaum: "These last two weeks have been the best two weeks of my life."
Before he heads to Omaha with his Kentucky Wildcats, Nick Mingione made a guest appearance on Tuesday’s edition of The Paul Finebaum Show. Mingione joined Paul to preview the upcoming trip to the College World Series, but part of the conversation was spent looking back on “the best two weeks” of Mingione’s life.
“It’s been like a dream come true, Paul,” Kentucky‘s head coach told Finebaum and the Finebaum audience. “I hope you appreciate my transparency here, but these last two weeks have been the best two weeks of my life.
First, Mingione said, the NCAA announced the field two Mondays ago with Kentucky as the No. 2 overall seed, the highest seed in school history. Then, Mingione’s 9-year-old son, Reeves, had another big announcement for the team at their selection show watch party.

“He decided he wanted to be baptized, and he wanted the team to come, so he personally invited the whole team. That Thursday, they voluntarily showed up to his baptism at my house–he got baptized in our backyard–and then we play in the regional on Friday.
“We win. We play on a Saturday, we win. We play on Sunday, we win. And then you fast forward to last week, we host our first-ever Super Regional. We win on Saturday, we win on Sunday. It’s one o’clock in the morning, there’s still about 7,500 here, and we go to the first-ever trip to the College World Series. It’s been a dream come true.”
Not shy about his faith, Mingione added, “I believe only God could write that story.”
