We are in the middle of the most active recruiting period of the offseason. Kentucky hosted about 20 players for official visits that rolled consecutively over a 10-day period. The Cats secured a handful of commitments leading into the dead period. The number of announcements will grow significantly over the next two weeks. Let’s address a few noteworthy items before the chaos really kicks in.

Kentucky is Beating Iowa for DBs

There are typically two questions a fan asks when they see a player commit to Kentucky.

What’s his ranking?
Who did Kentucky beat?

There hasn’t been an answer to the former question, with a couple of unranked commitments, however, the latter has been good for the secondary. Iowa has been turning three-star defensive backs into pros for years. It’s similar to what happened ten years ago at Kentucky. If John Schlarman offered an offensive lineman, pay attention, because that guy’s going to be a good football player.

The Hawkeyes were considered the top competition for a pair of UK commits, S Messiah Tilson and CB Isaiah McMillan. In addition to the Iowa interest, McMillan plays for Katy High School, one of the most prolific prep programs in Texas. He’ll be well-coached when he arrives in Lexington.

Kentucky Target Commits to Miami

Kentucky has piled up some recruiting wins, now up to nine players in the 2026 recruiting class, but they aren’t winning them all. Asharri Charles was in Lexington this time a week ago for an official visit. Before his trip to Kentucky, we told you that Miami was the team to beat. That proved to be the case when the four-star Florida native committed to the Canes.

Louisville Native Blows Up

Most of our attention is currently on the 2026 recruiting class, but there’s a player from Louisville in the 2027 recruiting class who had one heck of a weekend. Wide receiver Ja’Hyde Brown earned an offer from Alabama after clocking a 4.48 at a camp in Tuscaloosa. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State promptly followed suit and extended scholarship offers.

Brown plays high school football at CAL and trains with Chris Vaughn at Aspirations Gym. He was only 5-foot-8 when Vince Marrow offered him as an 8th grader. Now 5-foot-10.5, he checks all of the boxes to be the state’s next high-profile recruit. Without Marrow in the picture, it’s difficult to forecast how involved the Wildcats will be when his recruitment really heats up a year from now.

Trevin Wallace gets taken to school

Why was a magician at the Carolina Panthers media day? Is he a member of the media? Who knows. What I do know is that former Kentucky LB Trevin Wallace tried to put him on the spot and was left dumbfounded.
