We’re only five days from the official start of college football (!!!!!!!), but this past weekend was all about dragons, Tagaryens, and the highly-anticipated premiere of HBO’s new “Game of Thrones” spin-off series.

Episode one of the new prequel, “House of the Dragon,” aired late last night with a brand new cast of characters fighting for the Iron Throne. Set some 200 years before all of the Thrones storylines we already know, “House of Dragon” brought back bloody Sunday nights for the first time since the “Game of Thrones” series finale disappointed the entire world over three years ago. So far, the new show is off to a great start; although, I need to watch it again to grasp all of the new people and new ancient history in King’s Landing.

If you’re one of the millions who watched the premiere, let KSR know what you thought in the comments below. If you didn’t, I’ll shut up about it and get to the sports talk you’re here for…

UK Alumni Luncheon in Louisville

Today is the third Monday of Kentucky Football’s preseason fall camp and there is a field trip to Louisville on the schedule for Mark Stoops and his top assistant coaches. After this morning’s practice in Lexington, Stoops, Vince Marrow, Rich Scangarello, and Brad White will be at the Greater Louisville UK Alumni Club’s Wildcat Kickoff Luncheon at Churchill Downs to preview the season ahead. Can’t make it? KSR will be in attendance to report on all the coaches have to say to attendees, so check back here for the tea. Tickets to the event are sold out.

Once the coaches are back, we will hear from Scangarello, White, and many of Kentucky’s players throughout the week ahead, then it gets really real next Monday with Week 1 of the 2022 college football season.

Here’s Will Levis hitting Dane Key during Saturday’s scrimmage to hold you over.

Speaking of Levis, later today there will be a new event announced that Levis is doing with… me. He and I are talking ball next week in Lexington and I’ll tell you all about it when I can.

Kentucky Basketball back to work this week

If my calendar is correct, Kentucky Basketball gets back in the lab today following a weeklong break to rest up from the four-game slate in the Bahamas. The weight room will be a little more crowded too with the recent addition of Ugonna Kingsley Onyenso, the incoming freshman who moved into the Wildcat Coal Lodge last Thursday and will be an active participant on the team from this point forward.

Before the Wildcats completely close the book on the Bahamas, the video team released a look back at the trip to paradise for four preseason exhibition wins. Enjoy.

Things to watch on the KSR YouTube channel

More video for your Monday, later tonight Nick Roush and Adam Luckett will hop on KSR’s YouTube channel to share their latest fall football camp secrets and to make their game-by-game predictions for the year. The brains behind KSR’s 11 Personnel podcast are planning to go live at 7 PM for some Monday night football.

Also on the growing KSR YouTube channel, last Friday we shared a video of Tim Couch and Chris Stapleton playing against each other before they become superstars. We have the full game of the 1995 clash between Leslie County and Johnson Central.

Have you subscribed yet? If not, stop being lame and get in there.

We have a new Kroger KSR Game of the Week

Later today, Freddie Maggard will reveal the new Kroger KSR Game of the Week in high school football. As a member of the selection committee, I already know the destination and I’m excited for Freddie and the Game of the Week crew to head to a new part of the state for the farthest game west.

We will also have the first update to the KSR High School Football Rankings.

Isaiah Briscoe hit the game-winner in the BIG3 Championship

If you’ve been wondering whatever happened to Isaiah Briscoe‘s basketball career, you’ll be happy to know he is thriving in the BIG3. Yesterday, the former Wildcat guard (2015-17) hit the game-winner to give his team, Trilogy, its second straight BIG3 Championship.

Briscoe had 21 points and six rebounds in the championship game.

The Bengals play-by-play man needs to put some respect on Wan’Dale Robinson’s name

Former Kentucky star Wan’Dale Robinson played his second preseason game as a New York Football Giant but the broadcaster for the opposing team, the Cincinnati Bengals, mixed up his name.

As for the actual game, I did not see it but the box score credits Robinson for three catches for minus three yards.

Tonight we have the other New York team versus the Falcons on Monday Night Football.

Aaron Flener is the first former KSR blogger in the PGA’s TOUR Championship

Some huge news from the world of golf… On Sunday, JT Poston punched his ticket to the PGA’s TOUR Championship with a No. 27 finish in the FedExCup standings. He and his caddy, Aaron Flener, are now in Atlanta in one of the thirty available spots to play for golf’s $18 million prize and the FedExCup trophy.

So congrats and good luck to KSR’s favorite PGA TOUR golfer. And with the new FedExCup bonus payouts, I know who’s buying dinner next time Flener is in Lexington. If they win it, he’s buying several dinners.

I hope you have a great Monday

Go Cats.
