Mookie Cook to announce Thursday evening; Kentucky among top 3
A surprise announcement will pop by the end of the day, and he could be a Wildcat.
According to On3‘s, Joe Tipton, five-star class of 2023 small forward Marquis “Mookie” Cook is set to make his college decision on Thursday night during halftime of the 6:00 p.m. EST game of the GEICO Nationals, which will be broadcast live on ESPNU. Considered the No. 6 overall junior, Cook is down to a trio of programs in Kentucky, Oregon, and Gonzaga.
On3‘s Recruiting Prediction Machine currently gives the Ducks an 88.1 percent chance at landing Cook.

Clocking in at 6-foot-7, 200 pounds out of AZ Compass Prep (the same high school that produced Kentucky freshman TyTy Washington), Cook originally hails from Jefferson, OR, which is where the Oregon connection comes into play. There have been talks about a possible reclassification to 2022, although he recently shut down those rumors.
Cook took official visits to all three programs, visiting Lexington back in the fall before taking trips to Oregon and Gonzaga in February. Here’s what he had to say about the three schools in a previous interview.
Kentucky: “If you want to go to the NBA, that’s definitely the place to be. It speaks for itself. It’s just if you want to do it or not.”
Oregon: “It would be great to be home. My family would be able to be there at my games. I have a good connection with Coach (Dana) Altman and Coach (Chris) Crutchfield. That’s a great place to be.”
Gonzaga: “Man, they play up and down. That’s just a great coach- Mark Few…Brian Michaelson. They’ve just always shown love from the beginning. I was the first they offered in the 2023 class so that stands out to me.”
Joe Tipton, On3
We’ll know his decision soon enough.
