Multiple Kentucky WBB players ejected during scuffle at SEC Tournament
Things are getting chippy in Greenville, SC.
During first-round action of the 2023 SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament between 14-seed Kentucky and 11-seed Florida, four Kentucky players and four Florida players were ejected following a minor scuffle that took place during the middle of the second quarter. Wildcats Saniah Tyler, Eniya Russell, Cassidy Rowe, and Zennia Thomas were all ejected for leaving the bench area while the incident played out near Kentucky’s sideline. For Florida, Taliyah Wyche, Tatyana Wyche, Ra Shaya Kyle, and Faith Dut were also ejected for their roles.
Officials paused the game for 22 minutes to review what happened.
It all started when Kentucky forward Ajae Petty and Florida forward Tatyana Wyche were involved in a dust-up. In the leadup to the incident, Petty was seen shoving the ball at Wyche near her face following a made Kentucky basket. Wyche responded by tossing the ball at Petty, who was already walking back to midcourt. Wyche’s throw missed Petty, but she pursued Petty to about halfcourt before the situation escalated and benches began to clear.

Wyche was ejected for fighting (which means she would miss Florida’s next game if the Gators were to advance) while Petty was handed a technical foul and remained in the game. Also for Kentucky, Robyn Benton was tagged with an intentional foul for her role.
The ‘Cats took a 22-21 lead into halftime, but both sides will be down four players each for the remainder of the game.
