Jasper Johnson is just danger, danger, danger, danger, right? He just is a dangerous gravity guy. He just demands that if you’re not going to pay attention to him with more than one body, anywhere he is on the court probably, he’s gonna hurt you.”

Mark Pope sure nailed that scouting report, huh? It’s especially true now after the future Kentucky Wildcat drilled the longest shot in the history of Overtime Elite — a full-court dagger at the buzzer to beat the clock wrapping up the third quarter in RWE’s 97-91 victory over the Cold Hearts this past week.

A step inside the opposing 3-point line, Johnson launched it with 0.1 seconds to spare, a flick of the wrist launching the 3/4 court shot all the way to the other end and through the rim. Nothing but net.

This look from a fan in the stands says it all:

Take a look at the shot:

Johnson finished with 25 points on 7-16 shooting to go with five rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block in the win. His teammate, Newport, KY’s own Taylen Kinney, went for a team-high 28 points on 12-17 shooting with six assists, four rebounds and four steals.

The former is averaging 21.0 points on 50/40/80 shooting splits while the latter is putting up 22.1 points per game on 63/43/69 splits.

Mark Pope on Jasper Johnson

“He can really, really, really score the ball,” the Kentucky head coach said of the future Wildcat upon signing with the program. “And he’s got a kindness about him that’s really special. And he knows Kentucky, right? All one thing that’s great about all three of these guys is they have emotional reaction when they pull on a t-shirt that has Kentucky across the chest, right? They have emotional response. Jasper Johnson has a chance to be a really, really special player here in Kentucky, for sure.”

Music to Big Blue Nation’s ears. More of those full-court daggers inside Rupp Arena next year, please?
