Kentucky currently has a lot of momentum on the recruiting trail. Unfortunately, you can’t win every recruitment.

After making a good run at Mid-Atlantic offensive tackle Naquil Betrand, Kentucky seemed to be the favorite as a decision approached. However, the three-star prospect delayed his announcement and took a late unofficial visit to College Station at the end of July. Betrand earned a committable offer from Jimbo Fisher and decided to pledge to the Aggies.

Naquil Betrand is the No. 910 ranked prospect in the class of 2023 according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. The mid three-star recruit from Philadelphia recently transferred to prep powerhouse Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy.

Kentucky hosted the prospect for an official visit in June. The former Colorado commit also took official visits to Auburn and Syracuse. However, A&M was able to close strong to record its second offensive line recruiting win in the Mid-Atlantic this cycle.

Kentucky currently has three offensive line players committed in the 2023 class with one at each position. The Wildcats are still considered a strong contender for New Albany (Ind.) Senior offensive lineman William Spencer. However, there is only one true tackle — Richmond (Ky.) Madison Central senior Malachi Wood — in the class. Offensive line coach Zach Yenser and the rest of the staff will still be on the hunt for another true tackle to add to this haul.

Recruiting never stops.
