Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Bob Baffert is a winner.

The legendary (and controversial) horse trainer has picked up yet another victory, as National Treasure is the winner of the 148th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course. It was Baffert’s eighth win in the Preakness, a record, while jockey John Velazquez got his first victory in 12 tries.

  1. National Treasure (5/2)
  2. Blazing Sevens (9/2)
  3. Mage (7/5)
  4. Red Route One (8/1)

A $2 exacta paid $31.80, while a $1 trifecta paid $24.20 and a $1 superfecta paid $72.40.

The second leg of the Triple Crown held annually in Baltimore, MD with a purse of $1.5 million, the field shrunk down to just seven participating horses leading up to post time. First Mission, the perceived top challenger to Kentucky Derby winner Mage, was scratched on Friday.

These were the final odds leading up to post time, with Mage going from a morning line favorite of 7-5 to 7/5, while National Treasure finished as the second favorite, moving from 4/1 to 5/2. There was also a massive shift for Chase the Chaos, going from 50/1 to 10/1, while Coffeewithchris moved from 20/1 to 10/1:

  • National Treasure 5/2
  • Chase the Chaos 10/1
  • Mage 7/5
  • Coffeewithchris 10/1
  • Red Route One 8/1
  • Perform 8/1
  • Blazing Sevens 9/2
