Many developments are occurring rapidly on the college football recruiting trail in July. One of the biggest battles Kentucky is involved in is over in the DMV for a blue-chip pass rusher. Defensive coordinator Brad White has the Wildcats firmly in the hunt.

Four-star prospect Neeo Avery announced his four finalists in an Instagram post on Tuesday night with Kentucky making an appearance along with Maryland, Ole Miss, and Oregon.

Neeo Avery (6-4, 225) is the No. 224 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. The former Penn State commitment re-opened his recruitment in March, and the Wildcats are firmly in the mix.

Avery took official visits to both Kentucky and Maryland in June to go along with an unofficial trip to Ole Miss that same month and one out to Oregon to visit Dan Lanning’s program in May. The Wildcats are battling.

After adding three true EDGE players in the class of 2022, there is a smaller need for the position in this cycle. However, Neeo Avery appears to have all of the necessary physical traits to develop into a bonafide star rusher at the college level.

Josh Paschal became a college star and draft pick at Kentucky after a terrific career out of Olney (Md.) Our Lady of Good Counsel. The Wildcats are hoping that Neeo Avery will follow that same path.
