New Louisville HC Pat Kelsey: 'Every piece of blue has been eliminated from my wardrobe.'
Louisville’s new head coach might just be a gigantic goober. He’ll be quite easy for the Big Blue Nation to root against.
Pat Kelsey is certainly a quirky individual. There’s no denying his coaching ability — back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances with Charleston have proven that — but the 48-year-old is about to embark on an entirely different journey as the new head coach of the Cardinals. This is big-boy basketball, and to his credit, he’s already buying into the in-state rivalry with the school down the road.
“Every piece of blue has been eliminated from my wardrobe,” Kelsey posted to social media on Saturday, referring to Kentucky. “The Revival has begun. The ReviVILLE has begun. The passion in the minds & hearts of Card Nation is like no other.
“‘The revolution commenced before the war began. It was in the minds and hearts of the people.’ -John Adams.”

Yes, Pat Kelsey did indeed quote Founding Father John Adams. This bit comes just two days after he talked about traveling past John Calipari’s house before comparing Louisville to the gates of heaven.
I’ll give Kelsey one thing: he’s certainly not short on confidence — or whatever you call that. And maybe that’s what the Kentucky-Louisville rivalry needs after a decade-long stretch of domination from the Wildcats. The Cardinals are just 3-13 against Kentucky during the John Calipari era.
Sure, he’s kind of a dork, but again, Kelsey can coach the game of basketball. He took Winthrop to three NCAA Tournaments in nine seasons before posting a .735 win percentage across three seasons at Charleston. That being said, we’ll gladly get these jokes off until he proves capable of beating Kentucky.
