It’s not every day you see a team lose out on a commit in the middle of a game, but that’s what happened to Kentucky on Friday. New Mexico guard transfer Donovan Dent has committed to UCLA, per On3’s Joe Tipton, choosing the Bruins over Kentucky.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound point guard averaged 20.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game in 2024-25, earning Mountain West Conference Player of the Year Honors. He shot 49 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from three-point range

Kentucky started gaining momentum for Dent on Thursday, emerging as the frontrunner to land the star guard, with sources indicating a $3 million NIL asking price. However, confidence started to fade for Kentucky as the day went on.
