The 2025 NFL Draft is just over a week away. Professional football organizations are hosting final visits and making the final adjustments to their big board rankings. Personnel departments are focusing on the last weekend in April for the three-day mega-event in Green Bay that will include 257 picks over seven rounds.

For the Kentucky football program, the Wildcats are scheduled to have a busy Day 2 and Day 3 but might see one player sneak into the end of the first round. There are a handful of players that could become draft selections. KSR is here to get you ready after being there every step of the way during the pre-draft process.

Before our yearly draft guide publishes on draft week at KSR+, profiles on every expected Kentucky draft pick will hit the world wide web in preparation for the biggest non-game event on the sports calendar.

Background

Jamon Dumas-Johnson was a top-250 recruit in the 2021 high school recruiting cycle who starred at Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy. The four-star prospect received a ton of recruiting interest with Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, and Tennessee emerging as finalists in this recruitment. Dumas-Johnson ultimately decided to become a Bulldog and signed with Kirby Smart’s program.

As a true freshman at Georgia in 2021, Dumas-Johnson appeared in 14 games as UGA finished the season at 14-1 and defeated Alabama in the national championship game. The young linebacker was a backup to Nakobe Dean, Quay Walker, and Channing Tindall. All three of those players were draft picks. Most of Dumas-Johnson’s action came on special teams but that foundation year allowed him to step into a starting role as a sophomore in 2022.

Dumas-Johnson started all 15 games for Georgia in 2022 as Smart’s team ran the table and finished the season undefeated with another national championship trophy to add to the display case in Athens. The second-year player was a standout for the Dawgs and that led to All-American honors. Dumas-Johnson looked like a potential budding superstar and entered his junior year with high expectations.

The third-year linebacker started the first nine games for Georgia in 2023 before suffering a broken forearm that ended his season prematurely. With some young talent waiting in the wings, Dumas-Johnson decided to enter the transfer portal to secure more playing time as a senior. The transfer landed at Kentucky where he started every game but arguably had his worst season as a starting linebacker to date.

Scouting Report

Jamon Dumas-Johnson was a three-year starter in the SEC at Georgia and Kentucky who consistently showed up as a physical box player at off-ball linebacker. The second level defender can manage traffic, take on blocks, and be a productive player in run support. Plays with some twitch and short-area suddenness as an impactful gap filler. Brings some pop as a blitzer.

Dumas-Johnson has had some struggles throughout his career in pass coverage and lacks some sideline-to-sideline range but this is a big, tough, and sturdy linebacker can be a real asset in run support and play with a presence at the second level.

The two year as a starter at Georgia were better than his one year at Kentucky. That could create a fall on draft weekend despite the strong testing numbers.

Draft Window

Jamon Dumas-Johnson has seen his profile slip a little bit since his All-American campaign as a true sophomore in 2022. There will need to be at least double-digit linebacker prospect off the board before the high profile SEC transfer comes into draft range. There is a chance that Dumas-Johnson could sneak into the backend of the fifth round but it is more likely that he finds himself in the sixth or seventh-round when the third wave of linebacker selections are made.
