WATCH: Why Nick Mingione is Losing Sleep Ahead of the 2025 Kentucky Baseball Season
The Kentucky baseball team made history in 2024. For the first time in program history, the Wildcats won a Super Regional and advanced to Omaha for the College World Series. Once they got there, they made a little magic with a walk-off win in extra innings.
“What a season last year was, right? We gotta do it again. That’s the question you’re going to ask me,” Nick Mingione chided during Tuesday’s Kentucky baseball media day.
“That was fun. I want to go to Omaha again. I want to take my family there. I can tell you that it would not have happened without a lot of hard work from a lot of people. I want to thank Big Blue Nation.”
While many folks around Big Blue Nation may still look fondly back on last season, Mingione is looking ahead. The Bat Cats open the season next week in Nashville against Lipscomb. Ranked No. 20 to start the season, Mingione knows he has his work cut out for him to get this Kentucky baseball team in shape for another memorable campaign.
“We have 44 guys on our team. We have 29 first-year players. What does that mean? That means I got more gray hair this fall, I got less sleep than I’ve ever gotten, but I feel really good about the strides we’ve made so far,” he said.

Mingione wasn’t the only one who got a turn at the microphone.
