No. 1 Boyle County continues statewide domination with 26th straight win
Boyle County isn’t just the best high school football team in the state of Kentucky, the Rebels are one of the best in the entire country. Friday night was just another example of the dominance that head coach Justin Haddix has hammered onto the rest of the Bluegrass over the last several years.
Entering Week 6 with an undefeated record, top-ranked Boyle County (6-0) put a running clock on the Lexington Catholic Knights (0-6) on the road, ultimately coming away with a 51-7 victory in a game that was all Rebels from the opening kickoff to the final whistle. It marked Boyle County’s 26th straight win. The Rebels have not lost since facing Frederick Douglass all the way back in Oct. 2022.
But when you’re the four-time defending state champions in Class 4A, not even a 44-point win on the road comes without criticism when the goal is a fifth straight title.
“Some things we got to clean up. We didn’t play great it felt like,” Haddix said after the win. “We got in some situations we shouldn’t have been in. But our guys come out and really finished it and played well there in the end. Happy to come out and get a running clock, everybody is healthy, and we get to move on to district play.”
Having a human highlight reel like the Rebels do in Montavin Quisenberry can make up for some of the team’s minor mishaps. The three-star prospect and West Virginia commit was spectacular once again for Boyle County. A frontrunner for Mr. Football, Quisenberry rattled off three touchdowns against the Knights, two on the ground and one through the air. He finished with 148 total yards of offense and even threw for a successful two-point conversion.
“He’s very special. Get the ball to him and get out of the way,” Haddix said.
Quarterback Baylor Murphy also had a solid night for Boyle County. The junior finished 15-21 passing the ball for 259 yards and four touchdowns. Seniors Lyndon Smith, Austin Bodner, and Mac Hazlett all caught receiving touchdowns from Murphy. Junior JiDyn Smith-Hisel finished off the Rebels’ scoring with a short touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Lexington Catholic’s lone touchdown came near the end of the game. A short pass from junior Cam Sweeney to senior Cole Space put the Knights on the board with under 90 seconds left on the clock.
Boyle County has faced a tough schedule over halfway through the regular season, passing every test with flying colors. The Rebels convincingly beat No. 16 Lexington Christian Academy in the season-opener before smacking Bryan Station by 40 points the following week. But it was the Week 3 win over Ohio’s St. Edward (a nationally-ranked program) that put this team from Danville, KY on the map.
Looking ahead, Boyle County will play Russell County, Lincoln County, and Wayne County in order before closing out the regular season against No. 8 Frederick Douglass — the last team to beat the Rebels.
As for Lexington Catholic, don’t let the 0-6 record fool you. Yes, it’s been a rough go so far for the Knights, but all six games played so far have come against teams that are either currently ranked or are receiving votes in KSR’s most recent Top 25. Along with the Boyle County defeat, Lexington Catholic has lost to No. 14 Highlands, No. 13 Corbin, No. 22 Great Crossing, No. 16 Lexington Christian Academy, and RV Madison Central.
