No. 15 South Warren cruises to 21-point victory over Bryan Station

This offseason, South Warren, the No. 15 team in KSR’s Preseason Top 15 Rankings, was moved up to Class 6A as a part of realignment. The two-time state champs came into this season with an extra chip on their shoulder — to prove that they can play with the big dogs.
However, on Friday, we not only learned that the Spartans can play with the big dogs, but they can put a hurting on them. South Warren beat Bryan Station 56-35 in the KSR Game of the Week to get their season started on a winning note.
Junior wideout Tucker Sears got the party started for South Warren, getting out to the edge and sneaking into the end zone to put the Spartans up 7-0 early.
Kayden York had himself a day for South Warren. The senior running back was unstoppable, running all over the Defenders defense. Head coach J.T. Haskins is in his first year coaching for Bryan Station, and his initial taste of what it’s like to be at the helm was a bit sour.
All game long, Bryan Station just couldn’t stop shooting themselves in the foot. Driving down the field with a chance to make it a one score game? Holding penalty. About to get the red-hot Spartans offense off the field? They jump offsides. It seemed like discipline and mental focus was a bit of an issue against South Warren. It’s the small things that can ultimately derail you.

Because of that, South Warren just had a field day. Senior receiver Jake Carter broke free for a touchdown toward the end of the first half, out-running the entire Bryan Station defense from deep in their own territory.
Everything went South Warren’s way. Even when they couldn’t connect on a pass, the ball was tipped into the air and fell right into Carter’s hands, who was able to get down to the 1-yard line following the wacky play.
The Spartans have another Class 6A foe to get ready for next week — No. 14 DuPont Manual on the road. South Warren lost just two games last season, and one of those losses came to the Crimsons — a 35-7 blowout. They’ll be ready to right that wrong next week. As for Bryan Station, they’ll look to bounce back against Pulaski County in a neutral site game as a part of a doubleheader at Boyle County.
