When Pat Knight brings those boys from Lamar into Rupp Arena this evening, don't expect to see his father anywhere in the crowd to watch the game. Bob Knight's son said yesterday that his dad won't be attending the game for what we'll call 'personal reasons.'
"He's not a big fan of Kentucky," he said.
Yeah, we noticed.
Kentucky fans have hated Bob Knight for almost three decades now, so it's no surprise that the old man will be keeping his distance tonight. ESPN couldn't even get Knight to do College Gameday when the show rolled into town two years ago for the Tennessee game. Knight was a co-host on the show at that time. Remember? He wore sweaters.
Pat Knight seems to be a little bit more tolerable than his old man, but I'm sure Kentucky fans are still going to give it to him when he's announced before the game. It might be time to pull the "Daddy's Boy" chants out of the attic.
