No. 2 Trinity rolls No. 15 Bryan Station 28-10 in season opener
No. 2 Trinity‘s dominant run in Class 6A continued Friday night in its 2024 season opener, as the Shamrocks rolled No. 15 Bryan Station 28-10. It marked the second consecutive season that Trinity defeated Bryan Station to open its season.
Trinity won its 11th consecutive game extending back to last season. Those 11 wins have come by an average of 29 points per game, led by sophomore quarterback Zane Johnson.
Johnson threw two touchdown passes Friday night, one to sophomore wide receiver Kaleb Warner and one to senior wide receiver Joseph Ford. He finished with 174 yards passing and an interception.
Johnson became the first true freshman in Trinity program history to lead the Shamrocks to a State Championship last season, the 28th in school history. He passed for 2,289 yards and 30 touchdowns, earning some interest from both Louisville and Kentucky.
“We were clicking on offense,” Johnson said postgame. “But I’m trying to be more accurate with the ball and complete more passes. I’m also trying to be more of a leader.”
The Shamrocks’ other two scores came on the ground, courtesy of junior running back Zach Floyd and sophomore running back Jamaurion Berry.
Berry torched the Defender defense Friday night, rushing for 137 yards on 13 carries (10.5 yards per carry.)

The Louisville native, who holds interest from Kentucky, broke loose for a 35-yard touchdown to put the Shamrocks up 18 with just over nine minutes in the game. He fell just short of another 20-plus yard rushing touchdown with just over a minute remaining, but was still named the Most Valuable Player.
Following the win, Trinity defensive back Caleb Ricks exclaimed that they should be ranked higher in KSR’s Top 25 Rankings. After being told they were ranked No. 2, he exclaimed, “we’re better than Boyle County…”
It’s a shame we won’t get to see that matchup this season.
The Shamrock defense allowed just 239 total yards, while the offense totaled 389 total yards. After the first game of the season, Trinity’s intentions of winning back-to-back championships are extremely clear.
With their season opening victory, the Shamrocks will remain the No. 2 team in the state when they travel to No. 3 Frederick Douglass in the KSR Game of the Week next Friday night.
