One of the stars of Kentucky Baseball‘s co-SEC championship and run to Omaha will pursue other opportunities in college baseball next season. Nolan McCarthy, the Wildcats’ centerfielder, entered the transfer portal following Kentucky’s return home from the College World Series. Derek Terry broke the news of McCarthy’s move over at Bat Cats Central, citing “a source familiar with the situation.”

A junior in 2024, McCarthy is best known for his Pete Rose slide into the game-winning run in the NCAA Super Regional in Lexington. McCarthy went headfirst with full extension to score the decisive run against Oregon State, sending Kentucky to Omaha for the first time in school history.

The slide isn’t McCarthy’s only highlight from the postseason. The very next game, he hit his eighth home run of the season in UK’s first game in Omaha, a win against NC State. Prior to the NCAA success, McCarthy’s catch against Arkansas at the SEC Tournament is another memorable highlight from his final season as a Wildcat.

Moving forward, McCarthy, a native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, has one year of eligibility remaining at his next stop.

Thanks for the memories in Lexington.
