Good morning and welcome to the April 13th edition of the News and Views brought to you by Norm MacDonald. Norm debuted his new sports show on Comedy Central Tuesday night and it was everything Norm MacDonald fans expected it to be. The show had the deadpan comedy of the Weekend Update from Norm's SNL days in the 90s, with a sports twist, plus clips of John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, and Matthew Mitchell hitting their dougies. That's a #winning combination in my book. I've always been a fan of Norm MacDonald's comedy and I hope this show will last, although, most of its kind never do. For now, we'll consider Episode #1 of "The Sports Show with Norm MacDonald" a success and see how it holds up as the season goes on. Remember, if the opening monologue at the 1998 ESPY Awards taught us anything, it's that Norm MacDonald was born to talk to about sports... To the news... -- Tuesday was the day Coach Cal sat down with Terrence Jones and Brandon Knight to discuss their futures. I'm sure the meeting was exactly what you'd expect it to be. Coach Cal most likely discussed the lockout, potential draft scenarios, how next year will work if they decide to return to school, and how awesome college life is for a basketball player in Lexington. Calipari claims he never pushes any of his players out the door, only lays out all the pros and cons for the individual to make the best decision. As much as I'd like to see Knight stay, this year's weak draft class and his performance in the tournament has really opened the door for him to go now. I think Jones could really use another year to polish his skills but, again, there is no better time for anyone to enter the NBA Draft than this season. The lockout could be our only hope to keep those two around. -- One person who expects Brandon Knight to enter this year's NBA draft is 2012 recruit, Archie Goodwin. In an interview with SYNC (I don't know what that is either), Goodwin said there is no doubt in his mind that Brandon Knight is a one-and-done player. So, there ya go. Archie Goodwin with the scoop. -- Brandon Knight's NBA decision could have a direct effect on where Trevor Lacey will attend school. Lacey has pushed his announcement back until after the Derby Classic. Lacey claims he made his decision weeks ago and many believe it will be Kentucky. The postponement could mean he is waiting to see what Brandon Knight will do. If Knight goes pro, expect to see Lacey in blue next season. If Knight returns, Lacey won't stand much of a chance at playing time so expect him to go to Alabama where he can get his shots. I can really see Lacey putting up a 30-point game for Alabama and being one of those "we could've had him" guys like Chris Lofton or Rotnei Clarke. On the other hand, we'll be just fine without him. -- In "HAHAHAHHHA" news, Richard Pitino Jr. has supposedly been named the ‘coach-in-waiting' at Louisville. Billy Donovan let the news slip when Pitino Jr. left the Florida staff Tuesday to return as an assistant for the Dirty Birds. This laughable scenario hasn't been confirmed by anyone in The Ville - and I highly doubt it's true - but it's great comedy for Kentucky fans. Can you imagine that changing of the guard when Rick retires? "Son, this is my all-white suit. I want you to have it. Now go out there and win the Big East. Oh, and, ummmm... stay away from skanks." -- Pitino Jr.'s departure from Florida made room for John Pelphrey to re-join the Florida staff. If you recall, Pelphrey was an assistant coach at Florida for six seasons from 1997-2002... Before I go on, I'd like to warn you that your "Pelphrey should be UK's next coach" comment will not be tolerated... Although most expected Pelphrey to end up at a mid-major, it's good to see one of our favorite Cats landing back on his feet, even if it is as an assistant. It's been documented how close Pelphrey and Donovan's families are and he's a great addition to Donovan's staff. Donovan also added former St. John's head coach Norm Roberts. -- Kentucky baseball beat Louisville 3-2 Tuesday night. Is it even a rivalry anymore? -- In his final "Coach's Mailbag" of the season, Coach Cal said he has been asked by a couple of different countries to coach national teams. Cal says he "may think about doing it" but it wouldn't be until August. He said the experience he gained in the NBA helped him become a better coach and he hopes that, if he decides to do it, coaching an international team will have the same effect. He did not say which countries have asked for his services but those countries obviously "get it." -- Dan Werner was popped for DUI in Florida. Oh, how the mediocre have fallen. -- Just when we thought all hope of signing DeAndre Daniels had gone out the window, Jerry Tipton reported that Kentucky is still in the mix for Daniels after he spoke with Andy Borman, Daniels' high school coach at IMG Academy. Borman said Duke is not the favorite and DeAndre's recruitment is still wide open. That may be true, but I thought UK had rescinded the offer to Daniels a long time ago. Oh well, Tipton knows all. You can read Tipton's full recruiting report here. -- Our man Tee Martin was trending on Twitter Tuesday night, thanks to his appearance on ESPN's "The Brady 6." Coach Tee was shown wearing UK gear during his interview on the Tom Brady special. There were a few clips of him interacting with players at UK practice too. #BigBlueNation #WeAreUK -- In case you missed it on your favorite Ultimate Indoor Football League website, Jared Lorenzen was named the Conquest Cards Offensive Player of the Week for the third week in a row. The Hefty Lefty tied his previous single game record with nine touchdowns. Also, in case you missed it, Jared Lorenzen is playing in the Ultimate Indoor Football League. That'll do for now. Tune in to Matt Jones and Drew the Intern (remember, that's not me) on 1080 AM at 10:00 for the top-rated non-country music radio program in that time slot. As for the website, BTI gets it going at 9:00 am and the party will last all day. See you then, friends.
