Kentucky enters chat for California WR transfer Nyziah Hunter
Kentucky added five high school receivers to the roster during the early signing period to help replace some the attrition still ongoing in that position room. The Wildcats do not have a wide receivers coach for the 2025 season yet but Ja’Mori Maclin is coming back for his senior season and there appears to be some young promising talent. Despite a high volume of scholarship players, all expectations were for Kentucky to be active in the transfer market.
The Wildcats have entered the chat for one of the top wide receivers in the portal. California wideout Nyziah Hunter became a free agent on Tuesday night and the offers came flooding in after his announcement. Arizona State, Kansas, Kansas State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Syracuse, Texas Tech, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin have all entered the race with Kentucky.

Nyziah Hunter is a former four-star recruit with three years of eligibility remaining. The 6-foot-2 and 210-pound wideout accumulated 40 receptions on 56 targets for 578 yards and five touchdowns playing in the ACC last season. Hunter finished the season with a 28.6 percent explosive catch rate. The wideout was an efficient deep ball weapon with seven receptions on 11 targets on throws of 20-plus air yards, according to PFF data. The wideout led a top-35 passing success rate offense in receiving yards.
Kentucky’s first big wide receiver target has emerged. Can the Cats get Nyziah Hunter on campus for a visit? California head coach Justin Wilcox was the defensive coordinator at Boise State when Kentucky offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan played there. Does that relationship help at all in the recruitment? That is to be determined but the Wildcats are targeting a productive X receiver with multiple years of eligibility remaining.
