Oklahoma looking for fan who threw beer can at Kentucky players

The closing moments of last night’s win over Oklahoma were wild. After Otega Oweh hit the game-winner and he and Brandon Garrison blocked Jeremiah Fears’ attempt at the other end, chaos broke out at the Lloyd Noble Center.
In the span of about 90 seconds, Amari Williams had to separate Brandon Garrison from Jeremiah Fears, Kerr Kriisa accidentally shoved Otega Oweh into some Oklahoma coaches while celebrating, and Jalon Moore tried to cross the court to get in Garrison’s face, prompting officials to call off the handshake line. When Oweh walked over to do his SEC Network postgame interview, Oklahoma fans soundly booed him, which he egged on before putting on his headset and calmly doing the interview.
The craziest moment was captured by our own Adam Stratton, who filmed the Kentucky players as they exited the court. As they were going through the tunnel to the concourse, a fan threw a beer can at the players, narrowly missing Brandon Garrison’s head.
The clip has since gone viral and Oklahoma is trying to find the person responsible. The Sooners’ athletic department posted a statement on social media this afternoon apologizing for the incident and vowing to identify the perpetrator.
“We are aware of an incident that occurred following last night’s men’s basketball contest against Kentucky involving the throwing of a beverage can toward players. We are closely reviewing all available footage and are working to identify involved parties. We are also in communication with the Southeastern Conference. Anyone with information regarding the incident should provide that by emailing [email protected].
“The University of Oklahoma does not in any way condone this type of fan behavior and it will not be tolerated. We will take appropriate and necessary action against anyone who conducts themself in such a manner. We apologize to the University of Kentucky players, coaches, and fans.”

Brandon Garrison admits his “emotions got a little high”
The beer-can incident was not included in this video from Holden Krusemark, a sports reporter for KFOR in Oklahoma City, but it might be the best footage yet of the crazy scene after the buzzer sounded. In it, you can see the end of the game, the exchange between Garrison and Fears, Moore shouting at Garrison, Garrison responding (even throwing the loser “L” hand gesture), and Deb Moore escorting Otega Oweh to his postgame interview.
[Warning: there are a LOT of bad words in this clip, so mind your surroundings.]
At the postgame press conference (with his baby on his knee), Garrison admitted his emotions were high in his return to his home state. He not only grew up in Oklahoma City but played his freshman season at Oklahoma State, one of the Sooners’ biggest rivals.
“Just me being back home, you know, they tried to get up under my skin from right when I got in the game. Things got a little chippy at the end. But you know, it’s just basketball, nothing more, nothing less. It’s just part of it.”
“My emotions got a little high when I got the block and realized we got the win,” Garrison said of the exchange with Fears. “I forgot what I said, but yeah. I was just glad I got the block.”
Me too.
