Olivier Sarr's brother, Alexandre Sarr, is first European player to sign with Overtime Elite
The Sarr family has some strong basketball genes.
On Thursday morning, Overtime Elite, the latest professional basketball route as an alternative to the college path, announced that Alexandre Sarr has become the first European player to sign with the league. Alexandre is the younger brother of former Kentucky center Olivier Sarr. Alexandre is a 6-foot-10 native of Bordeaux, France, who played this past season for Real Madrid in Spain. Olivier Sarr spent the 2020-21 season with Kentucky after transferring from Wake Forest. He averaged 10.8 points and 5.2 rebounds as a Wildcat while shooting 47 percent from the field. He recently declared for the 2021 NBA Draft and will forgo his final year of college eligibility. The father of Olivier and Alexandre, Massar, also played professional basketball.
“Alexandre comes from a basketball family, learning from a father and brother who came before him. So he has heard of the work and dedication required to be a pro,” Brandon Williams, OTE EVP, Head of Basketball Operations said in the press release. “From his experience playing as a junior player in the Real Madrid club, Alexandre brings a youthful professionalism and a desire to be great, that will be a huge benefit to his teammates and our league.”

Overtime Elite is loading up on some impressive names as it prepares for the inaugural season this fall. Along with Sarr, OTE has now signed top-rated twin guards in Amen and Ausar Thompson and twin forwards Matt and Ryan Bewley. In total, the new league has signed eight players with more expected over the coming weeks.
The attraction of OTE is that every player is guaranteed a minimum salary of $100,000 per year that includes bonuses and a share in the league’s equity. It will be a lot like the new NIL rules in college athletics, as well, where the players can make money off of their brand through sponsorships, NFTs, and many other avenues.
