OMG! Mark Pope caught respectfully disagreeing with a foul called on Kentucky
Officiating. We aren’t going to talk about it. Kentucky won a hard-fought SEC game against a ranked Texas A&M team, so why would we bring up that hilarious foul call on Amari Williams in the first half? We’re not. We’re not mentioning the foul on Amari or how basketball games last more than two and a half hours now.
We will, however, share the clip of Mark Pope’s reaction to the officiating. Like the roar of boos in Rupp Arena around him, Pope disagreed with the call on Williams in the first half, and ESPN’s cameras caught his reaction with perfect timing as he oh-my-gosh’d the frick out of the whistle.
Kentucky Basketball, it’s for all ages.
Kids’ Night at Pope’s postgame radio show
Pope wasn’t OMG’ing all night. After the game, he was all smiles on his postgame radio show, especially when a four-year-old named Clara became part of the on-air interview on the Rupp Arena floor. At Lee Anne Pope’s encouragement, Clara took her homemade poster over to Pope during his conversation with Tom Leach. The sign read, “Thank You Santa First Game At Rupp Arena!” Pope signed the poster and gave Clara her moment on the air then asked her to bow for the many fans who stayed late in Rupp Arena. Yet another wholesome moment with the Popes after a Kentucky win.
