On this day in 2012: Kentucky wins No. 8

April 2, 2012. Ten years to the day since Kentucky took home its eighth national championship in New Orleans.
After knocking off Western Kentucky, Iowa State, Indiana, Baylor and Louisville on the road to the title, the Wildcats closed out the run with a 67-59 victory over Kansas to win the championship.
Doron Lamb led the way with 22 points on 7-12 shooting and 3-6 from three to go with three assists and two rebounds. Marquis Teague added 14 points (5-14 FG, 2-3 3PT), followed by Michael Kidd-Gilchrist with 11 points (4-7 FG) to round out double-digit scorers.
Anthony Davis finished with just six points on 1-10 shooting and 4-6 from the line, but added 16 rebounds, six blocks, five assists and three steals in the win. He was later named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four.

As a team, the Wildcats shot 41.1% from the field, 42.9% from three and 71.4% from the line. Defensively, Kentucky held Kansas to just 35.5% shooting on the day.
