Kentucky is currently playing a waiting game at quarterback in the 2026 recruiting cycle. Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller quarterback Matt Ponatoski is done with is his visits and is expected to make a final decision. The Cats are currently considered the favorite.

Ponatoski is now clearly the top available quarterback after Downey (Calif.) High star Oscar Rios came off the board on Friday. Arizona has recorded a significant West Coast recruiting win.

Oscar Rios is the No. 190 overall prospect in the 2026 On3 Industry Ranking and the No. 20 player in California. Kentucky hosted Rios for an official visit back in April and was considered a serious contender in this recruit up to a couple of weeks ago when things started to get really serious with Ponatoski. Rios ultimately trimmed his list to Arizona and UCLA with the Big 12 program winning out.

Now Kentucky will continue to try and close on Ponatoski.
