Oscar Tshiebwe to receive 1,000-point ball, Naismith Trophy before tonight's game
If you’re going to tonight’s season-opener vs. Howard, make sure to be in your seat early because there are some pregame festivities you don’t want to miss. Before introductions, Oscar Tshiebwe will be presented with his 1,000-point ball and the Naismith Trophy. If you didn’t realize Oscar now has 1,000 points in his career, it’s because it happened during the Saint Peter’s game. Regardless, he’s got a cool new ball for his trophy case; shoutout to UK for not putting “Saint Peter’s” on it.
John Calipari requests fans stand for final five minutes
If you’re going to the game tonight, also wear comfortable shoes because John Calipari is asking fans to stand for at least the final five minutes of the game. Cal tweeted the request earlier today and mentioned it last week during his postgame show following the win over Kentucky State.
“The greatest thing, I’m watching the Phillies game and I’m watching that in Philadelphia,” Cal said in his conversation with Tom Leach on Thursday. “What do you think I’m noticing? The fans are going nuts and I’m like, we’ve got to get Rupp Arena, I’ve got to — I remember a couple of games where I said, if you’re in here, remember the last five minutes everybody stands. Don’t care how old you are, you’ve got to stand the last five minutes.”
Oscar, Daimion Collins out; Sahvir Wheeler game-time decision
As Cal’s tweet notes, the Cats will be shorthanded against Howard tonight. Kentucky’s official game preview says Daimion Collins will not play as he mourns the passing of his father, Ben, last week. Oscar is “not expected to play” as he recovers from the minor knee procedure he underwent last week. Sahvir Wheeler is listed as a game-time decision.

On Thursday, Calipari said he’d be “stunned” if Oscar played tonight and said it’s doubtful that he plays in Friday night’s game vs. Duquesne.
“He’s just not normal,” Calipari added. “If he wanted to play Monday, I probably wouldn’t let him. He needs a few more days. If he wants to play Friday, I’m gonna have to work him out myself and see, and if I did, he’d probably play 10 or 15 minutes just to get his legs under him.”
Chin Coleman hits first pregame halfcourt shot of the season
This has nothing to do with the other topics, but I thought you’d like to know that Chin Coleman hit the first halfcourt shot of the regular season in today’s walkthrough.
Celebrate someone in your life like the team celebrates Chin.
