Oscar Tshiebwe now has the most rebounds in a single season in the modern era of Kentucky Basketball. With 16 boards in the 71-66 win over LSU, Oscar passed Anthony Davis and Julius Randle on Kentucky’s all-time list. He is now fifth with 427 rebounds in only 28 games. That’s the most in 67 years.

9.Dan Issel1968-6928381
10.Ed Beck1956-5727380

Oscar needs 141 rebounds to break Bill Spivey’s record. If the Cats make it to the national championship, that means he needs to average 11.75 per game. Easy peasy.

10th-straight double-double, 22nd overall

Oscar also had 17 points in the victory, making this his tenth straight double-double. Oscar is the first Wildcat to log ten straight double-doubles since Jim Andrews in the 1972-73 season. He has 22 on the season, tying him with Dan Issel (1968-69) for the third-most in a single season in Kentucky history. Issel owns the record with 25 total double-doubles in the 1969-70 season.

The debut of “Headband Oscar”

Oscar debuted a new look tonight at Rupp: a white Nike headband. After the game, he told reporters that unless he can find a bigger headband to fit his head, the look may not last for long.

“The headband, I wanted to see Headband Oscar. It was actually funny, when I wear the headband, all the assistant coaches, they told me, ‘If Coach sees you start missing layups, he’ll be like, you better take off that headband!’ I said, ‘Coach, I’m not going to miss no layup. I’m going to work.’ It was good. LSU, they were making fun of my headband. They said, ‘That headband is so little for you. You need a big headband.’ I told [Equipment Manager Mark Evans], I said, ‘You better find me a big headband because I cannot wear this anymore.’ So, I think if they can’t find a big one, I’m not just not going to wear no more headbands.”

Get to work, Mark.
