Oscar Tshiebwe named SEC Player of the Week
After what he did to Georgia last Tuesday night, it should come as no surprise that Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe is this week’s winner of the SEC’s Player of the Week award.
Tshiebwe scored 37 points and grabbed 24 rebounds in Kentucky’s win over Georgia, followed by a 17-rebound effort in the Wildcats’ win against Texas A&M over the weekend. Tuesday’s game against the Bulldogs was the Kentucky program’s first 30-point, 20-rebound game since 1976.

On Monday, the league officially named Tshiebwe its Player of the Week in recognition of Tshiebwe’s last two performances, in which he averaged 22 points and 20.5 rebounds in those back-to-back home wins. The SEC also notes Tshiebwe now has five of the seven games of 20 or more points and at least 18 rebounds by an SEC player in the last 10 seasons.
“Sometimes I just don’t believe the things I’m doing,” Tshiebwe recently said of his own numbers.
This week’s SEC Player of the Week trophy is the third of his career and the first this season.
And joining Tshiebwe in the weekly honors, Tennessee’s Julian Phillips was named SEC Freshman of the Week for his role in the Vols’ road wins at Mississippi State and LSU.
