Oscar Tshiebwe named SEC Co-Player of the Week
Oscar Tshiebwe‘s dominant performance vs. Florida led to some much-deserved recognition from the league. Oscar was named SEC Co-Player of the Week for his performances vs. the Gators and South Carolina. He shares the honor with Auburn center Walker Kessler. Oscar also won SEC Player of the Week after his record-breaking 27-rebound performance vs. Western Kentucky in December.
Oscar had 27 points and 19 rebounds on Saturday against Florida, his seventh-straight double-double and 19th of the season. It was his eighth 20-point game of the season and fifth with at least 20 points and 15 rebounds. He’s the first Kentucky Wildcat to achieve that feat since Kenny Walker in the 1984-85 season, and the only player to do it in the SEC in the last 25 years.
Oscar continues to lead the country in rebounding, with 15.3 boards per game. He has now grabbed 10+ rebounds in 12 straight games, the first Kentucky player to do so since Dan Issel in the 1969-70 season. Oscar’s streak is the longest of any SEC player since at least 1996-97. I can’t see it stopping any time soon.
