Otega Oweh has been Kentucky’s most consistent player this season, averaging a team-high 16.3 points per game and scoring in double figures in all but three games. In his first career NCAA Tournament game, Oweh led Kentucky with 20 points, 8 rebounds, and a career-high six rebounds. He was limited by foul trouble in the first half vs. Illinois but scored 13 points after halftime to help push the Cats to the Sweet 16.

For Kentucky to knock out Tennessee and keep dancing, they’ll need another big performance from Oweh. He scored a combined 27 points over the first two games vs. the Vols, leading Kentucky in scoring (13 points), rebounding (6), and blocks (2) in the win at Rupp Arena on Feb. 11. At today’s press conference, a reporter asked Oweh if there’s a way Tennessee can stop him. He delivered the perfect response.

“Umm, I don’t know,” he said, glancing at his teammates. “I hope not. But I’m just going to try to go out there and have good energy. I hope the ball finds good energy. I hope they can’t stop me because I’m trying to win, but we’re going to see.”

If you watch the video, you can see Andrew Carr say something to Oweh, who reacts and says something along the lines of, “Oh, I didn’t say it!” If we have any lip readers, I’d love to know.

Otega Oweh gets to play in Lucas Oil Stadium before his brother

By now, you know what Oweh’s older brother Odafe is a linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens haven’t played the Colts in Indianapolis since Odafe was drafted in 2021, meaning that Otega will play in Lucas Oil Stadium before his brother. When asked, he said those are pretty cool bragging rights.

“It’s a cool feeling playing in the stadium. I’ve never played in a football stadium before. Definitely just want to win, say that I won in a football stadium you haven’t played in, so that would be cool.

“But it just means a lot knowing he’s got to the highest level. I’m trying to get there. Just with the gems, the advice that he’s given me so far has been it’s a lot for me and it’s definitely got me all the way here. I’m just thankful that he’s in that position.”

Odafe (and the rest of the Oweh family) will be in Indianapolis this weekend to cheer Otega on. Hopefully, he come to San Antonio and watch his brother play in the Alamadome too.
