Otega Oweh played hero for Kentucky in the 83-82 win over Oklahoma on Feb. 26 when the wing scored UK’s last 18 points of the game. The former Oklahoma transfer ruined the night for the home team by hitting the game-winning shot with 6.1 seconds left.

The junior messed around and did it again at the SEC Tournament.

After some crunch time turnovers, Otega Oweh saved Kentucky from an embarrassing meltdown when Oklahoma erased a 12-point deficit in the last four-plus minutes. The Cats were up by 10 (80-70) with 1:20 left in the game before a 14-3 Oklahoma run put Mark Pope‘s team down by one with 5.6 seconds left.

Then Oweh happened again.

The junior saved Kentucky. KSR will be unpacking how Otega Oweh flipped the game in the second half, and ultimately saved Kentucky with some crunch time heroics. For now, we’re going to take a look at some of the numbers from the 85-84 victory in Nashville.

Kentucky scored 85 points in 74 possessions (1.15 points per possession) on 23-of-36 (63.9%) shooting from two, 8-of-24 (33.3%) shooting from three, and 15-of-22 (68.2%) shooting from the free throw line. Turnovers (12) were a massive issue late in the game. Kentucky was plus-8 (36-28) on the glass and scored 42 points in the paint. Otega Oweh (27 points on 14 field goal attempts), Koby Brea (22 points on 12 field goal attempts), and Andrew Carr (11 points on 9 field goal attempts) were the only players in double-figures. Brea was 4-of-7 from deep, but the rest of the Kentucky team was just 4-of-17 from the three-point line. An 11-0 run turned a 66-65 Kentucky lead with 6:50 left into to a 77-65 Kentucky lead 4:31 left.

The Cats flipped the game with the kill shot run, but nearly blew it away thanks to some thanks to three turnovers in the final 1:16 against the Oklahoma press.

Oklahoma scored 84 points in 71 possessions (1.18 points per possession) on 21-of-37 (56.8%) shooting from two, 9-of-25 (36%) shooting from three, and 15-of-18 (83.3%) shooting at the free throw line. The Sooners produced only four offensive rebounds, but got a big game from star freshman guard Jeremiah Fears (28 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists) and 33 points off the bench.

But that wasn’t enough.

Star forward Jalon Moore scored just 12 points on 14 field goal attempts and Fears was just 2-of-11 from three. The Sooners made a furious comeback, but ultimately fell short despite the big game from Fears and the role players on the roster.

Now we do it all again tomorrow night.
