Otega Oweh has scored 10+ points in every game this season: 'He's barely getting started.'
Otega Oweh has been Kentucky’s most consistent player this season. It really hasn’t been close, either.
The junior guard leads the Wildcats in scoring at 16.2 points per outing. After dropping 13 points during Kentucky’s 88-54 blowout win over Brown on New Year’s Eve, he continued his streak of scoring in double-figures in every single game so far this season. Oweh is now up to 207 total points on the season. Behind him in second place? That would be Jaxson Robinson and Koby Brea, who are both over 50 points behind their teammate with “only” 155 points each.
Even after a slow start against Brown, Oweh found a way to make his presence felt by everyone in the second half. He scored 11 of his 13 points after halftime. In fact, he scored those 11 points in the first nine minutes of the second half. Oweh’s final stat line consisted of: 13 points, four steals, two assists, one rebound, and zero turnovers in only 17 minutes (only two more than his season-low, by the way) of action. He shot 6-11 from the field and went 1-3 from deep.
“I don’t think O was super excited about his first half, but I was so proud of him,” Head coach Mark Pope said during his postgame radio segment. “It was very cool to see him come out in the second half and just play loose and free and loving the game. He has been so good for us all season long, on both ends of the floor. He’s barely getting started with what he’s going to become.”

Oweh’s consistency is something we might be taking for granted right now. I wasn’t even aware he had reached double-digits in scoring during all 13 games this season until after the win over Brown. His “worst” performance this season was a 10-point outing in a blowout win over Bucknell two games into the schedule. He hasn’t scored under 12 points since then.
Oweh’s season-high is 21 points, which he’s reached twice. This isn’t a case of him catching fire for a few games and going cold in others. He just finds ways to contribute no matter the scenario. Oweh’s 51 percent shooting from the field this season has come on a team-high 142 total shot attempts. He’s even making his outside shots at a 36 percent clip.
Quietly, Oweh continues to perform like Kentucky’s best player. Not many would have called that back in the offseason.
