Otega Oweh's double-digit scoring streak ended in Tuscaloosa

Otega Oweh played his worst game of the season in Kentucky‘s 96-83 loss at Alabama. The Wildcats’ leading scorer entered the game with a 16.2 points per game average and a record of 26 consecutive games with double-digit scoring, only to foul out with a season-low two points against the Crimson Tide. Oweh missed eight of nine shot attempts from the field in the losing effort, with six rebounds, two assists, two turnovers and five fouls in 22 minutes played.

Before Oweh’s cold night in Tuscaloosa, he was the only player in the Southeastern Conference to score 10 or more points per game in every game this season. Not since Malik Monk had a Kentucky Wildcat gone 26 straight games with 10+ points. That’s pretty good company for the transfer guard from Oklahoma.
Unfortunately, Oweh’s long-running scoring streak ran out at 26 games. He never seemed to get into the flow of the fast-paced track meet at Alabama. This steal-and-slam was a pivotal moment midway through the second half:
Mark Pope had little to say about Oweh’s night
When asked in his postgame press conference what Alabama did to hold Oweh to two points, Mark Pope replied, “Are you baiting me into an answer here?” Pope paused, then added, “Alabama is a terrific defensive team.”
