The No. 9 ranked Owensboro Catholic Aces ended a picture-perfect season in a 49-7 win over North Hardin. The Aces executed on all fronts. Everyone was locked in for every play, which was evident, as multiple guys made big contributions to the win over the Trojans.

Senior quarterback Brady Atwell celebrated a record-setting 10,000 career passing yards, a feat he conquered in last week’s 50-0 win against Fort Campbell. Atwell and the team displayed their offensive prowess yet again in Friday night’s showing at Steele Stadium in western Kentucky.

Owensboro Catholic had their way all night long. While the Trojans DBs were tagging heavy on Waryn Elebhar and Dereon Crowe, the Aces got their offense rolling in the run game, propelling them to success on many of their drives across the four quarters.

“The kids were locked in all week, they were ready for the challenge,” head coach Jason Morris said after the game. “It just shows what kind of team we can be when we’re truly together and all on one page.”

Atwell opened the scoring with a quarterback keep after a solid Aces drive to take the lead 7-0. Later in the first quarter, Atwell found Cameron Woodward on the outside who raced to the corner of the end zone to make it 14-0.

Crowe had an incredible showing all night. The senior receiver and defensive back intercepted a pass from Trojans QB Durelle Loggins, then went on a 61-yard touchdown run on the very next play to put Catholic up 21-0. The Aces’ defense was solid all night long, and senior linebacker Vince Carrico had multiple tackles for loss and sacks to give the Aces possession on offense.

Just before the end of the first half, Atwell took it home on his feet to give the Aces a four-possession lead at 27-0.

North Hardin showed signs of life after the break, though. Loggins found receiver Marian Jaudon in the end zone to give the Trojans their first and only score of the night. After the Trojans kicked the ball back to the opposite end zone, Crowe ran a casual 97 yards to the house to make it 34-7.

After another successful drive by Catholic, Crowe scored again, rushing 10 yards for another six, giving the Aces a 42-7 lead. After Vince Carrico executed a pick-six for our final score of 49-7, the Aces subbed in their JV team to close things out.

After tonight’s win, Owensboro Catholic will host at least two playoff games, which begin next week against Crittenden County at 7:00 p.m. CT back Steele Stadium.
