Padgett on Calipari

by:Thomas Beisner04/01/09
He's rumored to be a possible assistant coach, but nothing has been announced yet.  Today, Padgett spoke about the new UK coach. On what kind of change he thinks Calipari will bring to Kentucky ... "Obviously the style of play is going to change from day one. The demeanor is going to change and I think the attitude and confidence level will change. When you bring in a guy like John Calipari, you have confidence in him because he has the track record and the background to know he's going to steer you in the right direction." On if he thought Calipari won over the press conference ... "I thought he did a great job. He came in, he was funny and he answered the questions honestly and straight forward. He did what we expected him to be, the guy that won't have a problem sitting in front of the press and say what he feels like he needs to say. I don't expect him to have a problem with the media or the fans. That's the last thing I would worry about with this coach. As a recruiter, he's as good as everybody right now. This is an exciting day in college basketball." On how he feels about Calipari's belief in putting players first ... "I agree. Coaches' jobs to me are to put you in a position to succeed, but at the end of the day a player has to perform. I think what he's going to do is go out and get the best players and put them in a position to succeed. When you can put good talent with a good coach, it makes a good recipe to succeed." via UKAthletics.com
