Pat Kelsey makes acting debut in ridiculous Louisville basketball hype video

The basketball rivalry between Kentucky and Louisville has lacked some spark in recent seasons. The Wildcats lead the all-time series 39-17. The Big Blue has won the last two meetings by a combined 52 points. But things could change with Pat Kelsey at Louisville and Mark Pope at Kentucky.

Both coaches have been cordial to this point, but by the time that first meeting rolls around on Dec. 14, the rivalry juices could be flowing. Kelsey not being afraid to do seemingly anything for good PR certainly makes him easy to poke fun of.

We’ve seen the new head coach tell a St. Peter joke during his introductory press conference and catch punts before Louisville’s spring football game, but his latest stunt takes the cake. Pat Kelsey is an actor?

Cheesy? Yes. Cringeworthy? Absolutely. Are Louisville fans eating it up? They are starving.

A proud college basketball brand became a laughingstock over the last few years and has not made the Sweet 16 in a decade. The Cardinals are begging for some good times, and Kelsey is leaning into the need. The former Winthrop and Charleston head coach is enjoying the honeymoon phase and is willing to try anything to drum up interest in his program. Even if that means playing astronaut for a day as he leads his team onto the Yum Center floor.
