The Kentucky Derby is steeped in tradition through 149 years of the iconic horse race. This year a legend from another sport is helping start the Fastest Two Minutes in Sports.
Two-time Super Bowl Champion Patrick Mahomes took center stage last week at the NFL Draft in Kansas City. On Saturday he will be back in the spotlight in the city of Louisville. Before the race begins, Mahomes will call “Riders Up!” giving the jockeys the green light to take their mounts.
He will not be the first NFL signal-caller to pass along a different kind of signal. Former Louisville quarterback and 2014 Offensive Rookie of the Year Teddy Bridgewater hollered out those famous words in 2020. Last year Louisville’s Jack Harlow had the honor.

Patrick Mahomes will only have a little business to attend to while in town. The rest of his Kentucky Derby weekend will be spent having fun. You can catch him at the Barnstable Brown party along a host of VIPs, like Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Chris Pine and Travis Tritt.
Even though he is only 27-years-old, Patrick Mahomes is well on his way to becoming one of the most decorated quarterbacks in NFL history. In addition to a pair of Lombardi Trophies, the former Texas Tech Red Raider also has two NFL MVP awards and two Super Bowl MVPs.
