skalcrop Paul Biancardi did more than update us on Jamal Murray this morning. ESPN's recruiting analyst gave Seth Greenberg a thorough breakdown of UK's three freshmen: Isaiah Briscoe, Charles Matthews, and Skal Labissiere. I think you'll like what he had to say about each:

Isaiah Briscoe:

"He's got the body, he's a battle-tested point guard from New Jersey. I think he comes in and plays with Ulis, next to Ulis because he can score the ball, that's what he's done his whole life. Converted recently to a point guard. He can score at a moment's notice, especially inside the arc. Great at driving, creating fouls, mid-range jumper." "He's thick, he's strong, he's like Deron Williams body type. He plays for the the New Jersey Playaz in the EYBL. Why is that important? They won the Peach Jam, and that's a hard tournament to win in the summer, and he was the reason why. He can put a team on his back. Maybe not as a freshman, but he'll help instantaneously there. And when Ulis is out, he can play the point. When they're in there together, he can facilitate and score."

Charles Matthews:

"Terrific four-year player who I think is getting undervalued here because of Skal Labissiere, a top five player, and Briscoe, the number one point guard. Matthews is a four-year guy, DeAndre Liggins/Darius Miller type. Size, skill, versatility on the perimeter, will get better in time."

Skal Labissiere:

"The guy who is exciting to watch is Skal Labissiere. This guy can beat you in a game of horse shooting the basketball. He's got a beautiful stroke from 15 feet, from the three-point line. He's confident, he's comfortable, he's fluid, he's mobile. Then he can go inside and get you on a jump hook, drop off pass dunk." "He's an exciting player to watch because he's almost unlimited in where he can go, his upside. Block some shots, rebounds okay, I'd like to see him rebound better, scores with a jump hook or a jump shot. As he gets stronger, you're going to get a lot out of him. Unfortunately for Kentucky fans, his best basketball is 3-5 years from now." When Greenberg asked Biancardi to compare Skal to Karl Towns, Biancardi said Karl was stronger than Skal at this point, but Skal has a better jump shot than Karl did last summer.
"I like Skal's jump shot better than Karl's at the same stage. Karl really developed his jump shot his year at Kentucky. Karl-Anthony always had that soft touch. I think Skal comes in with a better jump shot. Both really don't love to post up, need to learn to post up. I think Skal's a better shot blocker, I'm going to say Karl Anthony's a better passer."
The more I hear about all three of these guys, the more excited I get for next season. Thanks again to Seth and Paul for their insight.
