Penn transfer forward Jordan Obi commits to Kentucky WBB
Finally. After what felt like ages of radio silence (it was actually just over two weeks), there’s more positive news regarding the Kentucky women’s basketball team.
On Thursday afternoon, Penn transfer forward Jordan Obi announced her commitment to Kentucky through social media. This comes after Obi took a visit to UK just over a week ago.
“I’m very excited about the addition of Jordan to our BBN family,” Head coach Kenny Brooks said of Obi, per UK’s press release. “Her experience and basketball ability will be valuable to our team in many ways. She’s a versatile player and will offer leadership from the start.”
This past season, Obi averaged 14.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.4 rebounds per game. Additionally, she made her three-point attempts at a career-high 38.6% clip. She also makes her chances count at the charity stripe as she shot 82.7% from the line.
Obi becomes the second transfer that Kenny Brooks has brought in who didn’t have previous ties to Virginia Tech — the other being Teonni Key from UNC.

A 3x All-Ivy selection, Obi comes to Kentucky as a fifth-year graduate transfer with just three seasons under her belt. In 2020-21, the Ivy League actually canceled winter sports due to COVID-19. Despite the year-long gap there, Obi has been dominant on the hardwood.
Brooks added what he really needed most on this team, a dynamic wing who can flat-out ball. Now, he’s got it in Obi.
There are now 10 players set to be on the 2024-25 roster. If we consider that Brooks typically rosters 12-13 players, there are roughly 2-3 more spots to fill. One of those is likely to be his daughter Gabby Brooks, who just wrapped up her redshirt freshman season at Virginia Tech.
Here’s what the current roster looks like following Jordan Obi’s commitment to the ‘Cats:
