Free agency recruitments in the transfer portal era move quickly. Players and schools must speed date to ultimately get to their final destination. That means getting visits scheduled quickly with final decisions arising soon after. In the spring window, Kentucky has surprisingly emerged as a shopper in the tailback market.

Kentucky worked swiftly to get a visit scheduled with Oregon State transfer Damien Martinez. However, Miami has quickly emerged as the favorite for the two-time All-Pac-12 performer. Now we’re seeing Kentucky pivot to a second option.

Louisville transfer Peny Boone entered the transfer portal on April 15 and quickly scheduled visits to Washington and Ole Miss. However, the trip to Seattle never happened, and it is not a certainty that Boone makes it to Oxford. A return to Louisville is on the table, but Kentucky officially entered the chat on Monday when the MAC transfer took a quick trip to Lexington.

Rivals’ Marshall Levenson reports that Peny Boone is meeting with the Kentucky coaching staff.

Peny Boone is currently the No. 33 overall ranked player in On3’s Transfer Portal Rankings and the No. 4 overall tailback. After spending his first two seasons at Maryland, Boone moved to Toledo and became a star in the MAC. The 230-pound tailback rushed for 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2023 on 7.0 yards per rush. Boone earned MAC Offensive Player of the Year honors before entering the transfer portal in December.

The high-profile transfer enrolled in Louisville for the spring semester but decided to leave the ACC school once the spring transfer portal window opened. Could Kentucky steal a player from Jeff Brohm? We will likely find out soon.
