Peny Boone will NOT transfer to Kentucky

Peny Boone is in a precarious position thanks to some unusual circumstances. Unfortunately, it’s preventing Kentucky from landing a commitment from one of the most productive running backs in college football.

Peny Boone entered the transfer portal in April before Louisville concluded spring practice. Immediately he became one of the best available running backs on the market. Boone took an official visit to Lexington at the start of last week. Before leaving Kentucky, predictions poured in for the Wildcats to secure his commitment.

KSR has learned that Boone will not be transferring to Kentucky. Players now have the green light to transfer as many times as possible without losing any eligibility, however, they still must meet certain academic requirements to become eligible at their next school.

Boone began his career at Maryland. After two seasons in the Big Ten, he transferred to Toledo where in 2023 he rushed for more than 1,400 yards and earned MAC Offensive Player of the Year honors. He hit the transfer portal in December but was ready to leave Louisville after only a few months on campus.

Seeking his fourth school in five years, and third in six months, KSR was informed Boone could not transfer enough credit hours toward a degree at Kentucky.

This is a new development in the transfer portal world of college athletics, but it will certainly become more of an issue moving forward for players who bounce around to multiple schools in a short amount of time. This same issue arose during Mark Pope’s roster-building process. Even though Boone may be ready to leave Louisville, from an academic standpoint, the Cards may be his only option.

Will Kentucky be able to find another running back in the transfer portal? It’s unknown how active they’ll continue to search as the April 30th deadline for new entries draws near. Damien Martinez was their initial top choice, but the former Oregon State Beaver committed to Miami over the weekend. There are still a few impressive running backs available, like Davon Booth from Utah State.

The Wildcats were looking to supplement Chip Trayanum‘s workload with a new addition. The powerful former Ohio State athlete may have to carry that weight on his broad shoulders this fall.
