Justin Edwards is playing himself into a regular role for the Philadelphia 76ers. The former Kentucky Wildcat has been promoted from a two-way deal to a standard NBA contract.
Edwards will play on a standard NBA contract for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. According to Keith Pompey, the Sixers will have a team option for next season, and they are exploring a long-term deal with the small forward.
Edwards was a five-star prospect who went undrafted after one season in Lexington. He was picked up by his hometown team as a free agent. Over the last two months, he has become an important player in Philly.
He’s logged double-digit minutes in almost every game of the New Year. He cemented his role with a 25-point performance against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Over the last ten games, Edwards averaged 10.1 points and 3.7 rebounds in over 30 minutes per game while shooting 45% from the floor. He secured a spot in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Bucks.

“He stays ready,” former Wildcat Tyrese Maxey said Wednesday after a win over the Kings, the Sixers’ fourth straight. “He’s played really good as far as making the right decision and the right plays, and he doesn’t let mistakes cloud his mind. If he’s open, he shoots it. If he’s not open, he passes it.”
This isn’t the only good news for the former Kentucky Wildcat. He’ll have his jersey retired at Imhotep High School later this week.
