Pitino weighs in on the absence of Kentucky and Duke in the tournament
Before his Iona Gaels try to upset Alabama tomorrow afternoon, Rick Pitino joined Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman to preview the tournament, and the absences of Kentucky and Duke from the tournament came up in the discussion.
“It can happen to anybody,” Pitino told the show. “It can happen to anyone in a COVID-type season.
“Both of those guys have done it a different way. I was at Louisville and our two biggest rivals were Kentucky and Duke, but they did it with the one-and-done basketball player and John Calipari, with the young players, is the best coach in the game. He understands how to coach young players. It takes a lot of patience.”

Pitino added, “But you better have an Anthony Davis, you better have some maturity on that basketball team because it’s very difficult.”
Hear Pitino’s full comments below and good luck to Alabama tomorrow. And I agree, it’s a lot better with an Anthony Davis.
