Point Spread: Kentucky vs. Gonzaga Opening Line
It’s a big week in Las Vegas. The folks in the casinos aren’t just handicapping Super Bowl LVIII. Today they’re delivering us the point spread for Saturday’s showdown at Rupp Arena between YOUR University of Kentucky Wildcats and the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
Kentucky opens as a 4.5-point favorite over Gonzaga, according to our friends at FanDuel. The total is set for 167.5 points.
The computer projections are picking up what Vegas is putting down. KenPom predicts an 85-82 Kentucky victory and gives the Wildcats a 60% chance to win. ESPN’s BPI is even more confident in the Cats, giving Kentucky a winning percentage of 69%.
Each team enters the matchup with a similar story. Both schools won by 30+ points this week after suffering a deflating loss at home. Mark Few’s team has struggled to live up to typical lofty expectations, under-performing Against the Spread (ATS) this fall with a 10-12 record. Gonzaga is 2-3 ATS away from home through the month of December.

Kentucky is 13-9 ATS this season and the under has cashed only five times in 22 games. However, the Wildcats have lost back-to-back games at home. We’ve never seen this program drop three straight games at Rupp Arena, the storied home of the Wildcats that opened in 1976.
This is the second meeting in a six-year series between the two schools and Gonzaga’s first-ever trip to Rupp. Last year Drew Timme tallied 22 points and seven rebounds in an 88-72 Gonzaga victory in Spokane.
