POINT SPREAD: Opening Line Released for Kentucky at Mississippi State

Mark Pope is still looking for his first true road win. That might be just one reason why Las Vegas is making Kentucky an underdog when the Wildcats hit the road on Saturday to take on a Top 25 Mississippi State team.

Chris Jans’ squad opens as a 4.5-point favorite over Kentucky on FanDuel. The total has been set at 161.5 points.

KenPom gives the Cats a 31% chance of victory, predicting an 84-79 Mississippi State win. Bart Torvik forecasts an 85-80 victory for the Bulldogs.

Kentucky has won 18 straight regular season games over Miss. State dating back to 2009, but this ain’t your Mom and Pop’s Bulldogs. Mississippi State is 14-1 and ranked in the Top 25 in both adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency. They’re led by sensational sophomore Josh Hubbard, who’s averaging 17.1 points per game and ranks second in the SEC in three-pointers made per game (3.1).

Backers of the Bulldogs have cashed in this season. Mississippi State is 10-5 Against the Spread (ATS), covering in four of their last five games. Betting on the Cats hasn’t come as easily. Kentucky has covered twice in its last six games and is just 8-7 ATS.
