Kentucky transfer target Pop Isaacs commits to Creighton
Texas Tech guard Pop Isaacs announced his plans to enter the transfer portal on March 30. Kentucky reached out to the Texas Tech transfer of April 18. Ten days after that contact, Isaacs came off the board.
The Big 12 transfer ended his transfer recruitment with a commitment to Creighton on Saturday. The perimeter player will spend his junior season in the Big East.
As a sophomore playing for Grant McCasland at Texas Tech, Pop Isaacs earned All-Big 12 second-team honors as he led the Red Raiders in scoring (15.8) and started all 34 games. The 6-foot-2 lead guard produced .349/.293/.836 shooting splits in 32.8 minutes per game to go along with 3.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists. Isaacs was a shot-heavy guard who had one of the highest usage rates in the Big 12 last season.
In a Texas Tech home victory over BYU on Jan. 20, Pop Isaacs scored 33 points on 19 shot attempts. In another Texas Tech win over BYU in the Big 12 tournament, Isaacs again had a big performance against Mark Pope’s team dropping 22 points on 19 shot attempts.
Kentucky addressed the guard position over the weekend by adding San Diego State transfer Lamont Butler and hosting Saint Mary’s transfer Aidan Mahaney. If the latter commits, the Wildcats may just have their starting backcourt locked in for next season.
