Preakness Stakes 148: Post Positions, Morning Line Odds Set
The field for the 148th running of the Preakness Stakes is set. For the first time since 2018, the second leg of the Triple Crown will include a Kentucky Derby winner.
Mage drew post position No. 3 and is the morning line favorite with 8-5 odds. Trained by Gustavo Delgado, jockey Javier Castellano will be back on board this Saturday at Pimlico Race Course. Mage will be the only runner from the Kentucky Derby that makes the trip to Baltimore.

Despite the lack of Derby runners, Mage will be challenged by a couple of formidable contenders. Brad Cox’s First Mission is lightly raced, but has back-to-back wins, including an impressive victory at Keeneland’s Lexington Stakes. Chad Brown held Blazing Sevens out of the Kentucky Derby to prepare the horse for the Preakness, a strategy that resulted in Preakness wins for the trainer in 2022 and 2017. Unlike the Kentucky Derby, Bob Baffert will have a horse eligible in Baltimore, National Treasure. The Hall of Fame trainer is seeking his record eighth Preakness Stakes victory.
The Preakness Stakes is the shortest leg of the Triple Crown at 1 3/16 miles. The 8-horse field will race for a $1.5 million purse. Post time is set for 6:50 pm EST Saturday, May 20. Coverage begins on NBC at 4:30 pm EST.
